Location
Haridwar situated on the foothills of the Himalayas signifies the summit, where the river Ganga reaches the plains. Haridwar is an primeval pilgrimage spot, held in respect for centuries. Meaning of “Haridwar” is the access to Lord Hari. The town covers an area of 2,360 sq. km and stretches amid the 29°58 ' North Latitude and the 78°13' in East Longitude. The town is floating at an altitude of 790 meters above the sea level. Numerous temples and ashrams spot this town. A visit to Haridwar is like stepping into a land of gods for the salvation.

Climate
Haridwar is situated at a height of almost 300 meters above sea level and the temperature usually hovers around 40C during summers. During winters, the temperature falls as low as 6C. During summers, the maximum temperature reaches 40.9 C and the minimum temperature comes down to 15.6 C. During winters the maximum temperature reaches 16.6 C and the minimum temperature comes down to 6 C.

Best time to visit : Best time to visit Haridwar is between September and June. 

The City
Haridwar, the spiritual heart of India, is nestled in the lap of Himalayas in Uttaranchal. It is an antique pilgrimage town that has been held in worship since historic times. It is said that by bathing in the blessed river Ganga, all the sins are forgiven and the person gets salvation. Haridwar is like stepping into a whole new world, where people gather from all parts of the world to bathe in river Ganges. The city mainly comprises of sacred waters of Ganga, calm soothing environment, mighty mountains, saints performing prayers in Ashrams and picturesque surroundings. One also finds the place strewn with several temples and ashrams. People take a bathe in holy pond and seek forgiveness

Major Attractions in the city

Har Ki Pauri Har Ki Pauri or Brahm Kund is the main ghat of Haridwar which is believed to represent the point from where River Ganges takes leave of the mountains and makes it way to the plains. A number of devotees come here to pay their homage to the footprint of God and bathe in the holy river Ganga. Every evening, Ganga aarti is held which is a great spectacle where hundreds of tiny diyas and marigolds float down the river while priests recite 'Om' on the Ghat steps. 

Mansa Devi Temple : The temple is situated on a hill above the city and one can reach there via a cable-car ride which can be a thrilling experience. Another option is to climb up the 1.5 km stretch, to the temple of Goddess Mansa, one of the varied forms of Goddess Durga who is said to have power to grant one's wishes. 

Chandi Devi Temple : Chandi Devi, a deity who is said to be as fierce to the sinners as she is kind to those who are devoted to her is one of the varied forms of Goddess Durga. The temple is situated on a hilltop and can be reached by the cable cars. 

Other places of interest

Rishikesh :
 It is located at a distance of 24 kms from Haridwar and is known as the Tapo Bhumi or the place for meditation of the Gods. Rishikesh, one of the popular pilgrimage for the Hindus, attracts visitors from all parts of the country. This is the place fro where the holy river ganga starts her journey. 

Mussoorie : It is popularly known as the queen of hill stations, Mussoorie is just 89 kms from Haridwar. This is an ideal hill resort as it owns a salubrious climate and dense woods. 

Dehradun : This hill station is located in the Shivalik hills and is just 54 kms from Haridwar. The thick woods and scenic beauty of the place is enough to pulls tourist from all across the country. 

DeoprayagAn important holy place for the Hindus is where the aggressive Alaknanda merges with the gentle flowing Bhagirathi. It is located at a distance of 95 kms from Haridwar and should never be missed on one's visit to Haridwar.
